Lynne feels fortunate that she made a Tree/Sea Change to the Northern Rivers, NSW some decades ago, enabling her to experience the beauty of nature, be nurtured by the sense of belonging with a diverse caring community and gain fulfilment in living a lifestyle that limited the size of her environmental footprint. Minimalizing consumption, reusing , recycling and repairing in everyday life led Lynne to begin experimenting with reutilising waste such as beer bottle caps (creating front door mud mats, then dresses and vests) and, of course, plastic bottles. Over time the range of waste materials Lynne used increased substantially to include video tape, varied plastics, netting, poly pipe and aluminium tubing.
Lynne has also incorporated solar lighting for spectacular night effects and to raise awareness of renewable energy. Recently Lynne has been experimenting with Aluminium Drink Cans and loving it.
Lynne acknowledges the valued input of her partner, Tony Butler, for his ongoing support and assistance especially with exhibiting and workshops and in documenting the various Projects.
Lynne has endeavoured to acknowledge other individuals and organisations whose input was vital for her success.
Lynne is currently in transition brought about by a move to Hervey Bay, QLD. As with all change, she explains this involves adjusting and growing to meet the challenges that come from stepping out of your comfort zone.
When commencing her artistic journey nearly 20 years ago, Lynne notes that there was far less awareness of the threats posed by unsustainable practices, the levels of waste and pollution being created, discussion around concepts of utilising renewable energies were being stifled by governments, corporations and economic vested interests.
With ongoing research highlighting the extent of plastic pollution, the shocking loss of species and habitat, the devastating effects of fire and flood signalling the speed of climate change and the selfish shift towards the right in the political domain, all paint a frightening picture.
Lynne remains hopeful that sufficient change will come about, in a holistic manner, so that earth has a chance to repair, whilst communities strengthen and prosper and that society becomes more equitable.
She is aware, however, that there will continue to be ample issues requiring attention, hence no lack of topics for her environmental artistic focus at this current time. Many important issues are being shrouded in a covid haze.
Lynne also recognises the importance of just “stopping to smell the roses”, to just be lifted by the beauty of a colourful creation, especially as this involves a transformation from being just waste.
